ALL ABOUT SHAOLIN KUNG FU MOVIES
It is impossible to discuss Shaolin Kung Fu Films without first covering what Shaolin means. Shaolin is a collection or group of Chinese martial arts that theoretically have a connection to the Shaolin Monastery. Thus, any movie that is included in a Shaolin Kung Fu movie, will somehow be affiliated with that particular monastery.
Great Number of Shaolin Kung Fu Movies
Because of the great stories, books, and legends that surround the Shaolin, you will find that the greater majority of Kung Fu movies will somehow not only mention Shaolin but chances are that the title of the movie will have Shaolin in it. Examples of this are: “Ten Brothers of Shaolin,” “13 Poles of Shaolin,” “18 Shaolin Riders,” “American Shaolin,” “Shaolin Challenges Ninja,” “Dragon From Shaolin,” “Enter the 36th Chamber of Shaolin,” “Executioners of Shaolin,” “Fury in Shaolin Temple,” “Guards of Shaolin,” “Invincible Shaolin AKA Unbeatable Dragon,” “Martial Arts of Shaolin,” “Ninja VS Shaolin Guards,” “Revenge of the Shaolin Kid,” “Secret of Shaolin Kung Fu,” “Shaolin,” “Shaolin Against Llama,” “Shaolin Avengers,” “Shaolin Drunken Fight,” “Shaolin Ex-Monk,” “Shaolin Expendables,” “Shaolin Girl,” “Shaolin Grandma,” “Shaolin Handlock,” “Shaolin Intruders,” “Shaolin Kung Fu Master,” “Shaolin Martial Arts,” “Shaolin Master Killer,” “Shaolin Possee,” “Shaolin Red Master,” “Shaolin Soccer,” “Shaolin Strikes Back,” “Shaolin Temple 2 Kids From Shaolin,” “Shaolin Traitorous,” “Shaolin V Ninja,” “Shaolin VS Evil Dead,” “Shaolin VS Manchu,” “Shaolin VS. Lama,” “Shaolin Wooden Men,” “Abbott of Shaolin,” “Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin,” “Snake Killer VS Shaolin Fox,” “Songshan Shaolin Temple,” “South Shaolin & North Shaolin,” “The New Legend of Shaolin,” and also “Two Champions of Shaolin.”
Mind you these are simply titles of various Kung Fu movies that have the title Shaolin in them, but it does illustrate how important Shaolin is in your vocabulary if you like Kung Fu movies. Thus Shaolin Kung Fu movies are practically synonymous with the terms Kung Fu movies.
What Shaolin Kung Fu Movies Generally Are About
In truth, the greater majority of novels and movies that are about Chinese Kung Fu, Shaolin is now used to represent justice. Thus the Kung Fu utilized must be bold and definitely mighty. What happened is that eventually the word “Shaolin” was more or less a label that indicated a Chinese movie. This is why you will find that people, especially knowledgeable ones in the art of Kung Fu, will say that if a movie involves martial arts, monks and a lot of action, they will talk about the film being a Shaolin movie. It is a given that many actual Shaolin movies are all about the temple being torn apart, often by a bomb, but the point is that it gets blown apart for one reason or another. 99.9% of the various Shaolin movies involve getting revenge of some sort on the evildoers, so that in some respects there are hardly any surprises in those movies. However, each director seems to be able to insert surprise in the film, sometimes away from the central theme even.
How Shaolin Kung Fu Movies Generally Entertain
It’s very interesting that if you were to sit outside a theater that is showing some kind of Shaoling Kung Fu movie, you would see many guys, of all ages, coming out of the theater inspired to try their Kung Fu kicks at each other, at signposts, and even at parked cars. Many have said that the excitement of such movies is downright contagious, and they might be correct in that particular assumption. Regardless, may you enjoy your Shaolin Film!
